God speaks to us in many ways....
God speaks to us in many ways. We can hear God audibly, or perhaps hear Him in that still small voice within our inner man. Often-times we can sense His presence surrounding us. This involves being connected to the Lord in a deep and intimate personal relationship. It’s a relationship that teaches us to be able to know the difference between His voice, the voice of the enemy and our own voice. Our own voice has the tendency to be self-centered in that it may be filled with personal opinions and religious teachings. An authentic relationship with God involves spending time with Him. It is the way any friendship is built. This is how we learn His ways and develop a deep and abiding hunger to identify His voice. This same hunger also fills us with the desire to follow in His footsteps seeking only His perfect will in our lives.
God’s personal interaction with his people is recorded throughout the bible from Genesis to Revelation. These biblical accounts reveal, without any doubt, that God continually opened doors for one of the most important areas and that is divine inter-action through conversation. We often forget that one of the reasons God created man is for friendship and relationship. One of the most important approaches we must adopt and learn to use is to ask questions. Ask the Lord to help you understand and clarify His message. He speaks to us in dreams, which are symbolic, and in visions which are literal. We can hear His voice in nature. There are divine messages in colors. His voice comes through loud and clear in His written word. His messages come forth through angels as well as through people. His way of speaking to us has no boundaries.
There are many passages throughout scripture that are examples of how God speaks to us and how we hear Him. In Exodus 3:3-4 we read how Moses heard His audible voice in the burning bush. Moses turned to see this great sight wondering why the bush does not burn. When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, Moses, Moses! And he said, "here I am."
In Deuteronomy 30:19-20 we hear another account of God speaking as Moses explains the commandments and statutes God had given in His covenant. In Matthew 1:18-24 God spoke to Joseph through an angel, in a dream, with both encouragement and specific direction regarding Mary, his wife, being with child who would give birth to a son to be named Immanuel. God continuously speaks to us in many and diverse ways…we need only to listen.
Most recently the Lord reminded me that my intuition is a gift from God and that He uses that gift to speak to me in a most clear fashion. We must always be cognizant of the fact that we have been blessed with our five senses that are in reality, spiritual receptors he uses to speak to us. Father, sanctify our eyes that we may truly see you and all that is within your supernatural realm. Sanctify our ears that we will hear you clearly and accurately. Sanctify our sense of smell that we may know your sweet fragrance and discern your presence. Sanctify our mouth so that we may speak your truth with love and compassion.
Pray also for me that whenever I open my mouth words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly as I should. (Eph. 6:19) Sanctify our hands so that we may touch and heal in the love of Jesus and in His precious name. Practice His presence and test your hearing. Test the fruit and experience His sweet, awesome, and powerful voice. Remember that, to whatever degree, you empty yourself of your own agenda, the more he can fill you with more of His Spirit.
